Dear Parents,

Happy New Year and welcome back to school. I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas Break and were not too adversely affected by the flooding.

Next week is the annual NIT (Napa Invitational Tournament), which is a basketball tournament for junior high teams from inside and outside of Napa. It runs from Thursday through Sunday. Please come and enjoy some good basketball and great food at the Eagle Cafe. Brackets and schedules will be available in the office. GO EAGLES! During next week, we will be having special dress days to help show our school spirit and encourage our teams.

Attached to this week's newsletter is a sign up form for an Engineering FUNdamentals Class that we are sponsoring for any 1st through 5th graders who are interested. It will be held on Thursdays from January 19 through March 9 from 3:15 to 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon. Please turn in application and fee to the school office by Friday, January 13th. (Please make checks payable to Play-Well TEKnologies). If you are interested, please sign up early. There are a limited number of spaces.

Weekly News
  1. APT Meeting: The next A.P.T. meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 10th at 6:30 in the library. We will be discussing budget items, the Crab Feed and Country Fair planning. Please make your calendars. Babysitting will be provided, courtesy of A.P.T. Please find attached, Issue 2 of the Eagle's Nest
  2. Thank you First & Second grade: The Hope Center, a local day shelter for the homeless, would like to thank the St. John's Lutheran First and Second grade students, parents and teachers and everyone who participated in collecting items for "Comfort Kits" in December. Mike Randolph and Beth Pratt-Anderson delivered 133 completed packages, which included toiletries, socks and gloves to the Hope Center the week before Christmas. The center staff and residents were very appreciative. Thanks for caring.
  3. Crab Feed: Be sure to save Saturday, February 11th for St. John's annual Crab Feed. Those interested in helping out on a committee or donating auction items, please contact Cindy Stade at 258-1636. Tickets are $45.00 each. Reserve your spot by calling Cindy Stade at 258-1636. You can drop off you check at the school office. "Corporate Sponsorships" help support our school and highlight your business/company etc. with the SJL school families and friends. Participating sponsors will be named not only on our event banner but on the raffle tickets and at the event on Feb. 11th. Deadline to become a sponsor is January 11th when raffle tickets go on sale.   4. Box Tops for Education: Thank you to everyone who continues to bring in their General Mills Box Tops. We received a check for $160.56. The cutoff date for the next check will be February 28, 2006. Thank you to Alice Piper for processing these orders for the school.
  5. N.I.T.: Please join us for a weekend of basketball, fellowship, food and fun at the 17th annual St. John's Napa Invitational Tournament. Games begin Thursday, Jan. 12th, at 3:45 (4 games) and continue Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Teams from San Francisco, Livermore, Anaheim, Piedmont, Santa Rosa, and Napa are Participating. St. John's girls and boys teams play their first games on Friday, January 13th at 3:45 and 5:00 pm. Admission to the games is $4.00 for adults and $1.00 for students. Tournament passes are available for $10.00 (adult) and $2.50 (student).
  6. The Scoop From Scrip: Wow!!! We sold nearly $40,000 of Scrip thru the school office during the month of December earning APT just over $2,000.00. Thank you to everyone who continues to support this easy and profitable fundraiser. We are stocked and ready to go for the New Year. For all those new iPod owners, remember we have iTunes certificates for $15.00 which will allow you to download 15 songs.
  7. From the Minister to Youth and Children:

    7th and 8th Graders: Just a reminder that we meet on Friday, January 20th for our next Jr. High Night. Our theme will be, "Pirates of the Caribbean" so don't forget to come dressed in pirate gear. We'll be meeting in the Gym from 7-9 pm and don't forget to invite your friends. Hope to see you on Friday, January 20th.
