On Eagles' Wings
May 13, 2005
Vol. 2, #34
From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Due to some staffing turnover at Napa Valley Unified School District, we will not be able to do our trial hot lunch run next week, but we will have a trial run with Kinyon Catering on May 23-26 (Monday – Thursday). You will be receiving an order form for that hot lunch very soon. The cost for all four days is $15.25, and those orders need to be turned in by 8:30 a.m. next Friday, May 20. I would like to encourage everyone to participate in this trial run, so that we can get good feedback. We are still looking for servers for those hot lunches. If you are interested in helping out, please let us know.

I want to thank our Student Council for running a great Spirit Week this week, concluding with a fun pep rally today. Thank you especially to Renee Lloyd for her help with this fine group. We wish our track and field participants blessing on their meet tomorrow in Fremont. Go Eagles!!! I want to also wish Joshua Heine blessings as he participates in a state spelling bee competition!

Attached to this week's newsletter is a nomination form for our annual Community Service Award that we present during our end-of-year awards ceremony. If you would like to nominate your child for something they have done, please fill the form out and return it by May 27.

If you haven't looked on the school website lately (you're here now), there are new pictures from the Country Fair posted. We thank Phil Gruenhagen once again for taking the pictures and for maintaining our website!

In Christ,
Joel D. Wahlers
Principal

Weekly News
  1. Comprehensive Fees: Comprehensive fees are due no later than June 1st. The fee per students for K-8 is $295.00 and PS is $130.00. May is the final month for tuition for the 2004-2005 school year. Tuition payments will resume on August 1st. New rates will go out in the summer letter in June.
  2. APT Meeting: Our final meeting for this school year will be on Tuesday, May 17th, at 6:30 in the library. Babysitting will be provided in the preschool room. We will report on results of Country Fair, Harvest Event update, elections of APT Executive Board for the 2005-2006 school year and discussion on BDSM vote to change bylaws affecting APT/BDSM liaison voting position. One classroom representative from each grade is required to attend. If you want to know what's going on, come to the meeting.
  3. Track Meet: This year's Lutheran Schools Athletic Association (LSAA) Track Meet is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th, at Newark Memorial High School, located at 39375 Newark Blvd., Newark, CA. This annual daylong meet brings together the best athletes from Lutheran Schools throughout the Bay Area. First call of events is at 8:15 AM and the final event begins at 3:00 PM. We wish all the best to all of our athletes.
  4. Country Fair Survey: Attached you will find a survey for the Country Fair. Please complete and return to the school office ASAP. This is the only way we can get your ideas.
  5. Vacation Bible School: St. John's Vacation Bible School (for children entering kindergarten thru 6th grade) is scheduled for July 18-22. Mark it on your calendars and plan on joining us for the wildest VBS ever as we go on a Prayer Safari! Registration and volunteer forms will be out soon, or call Penni Cremen for more information.
  6. St. John's Basketball Camps: Brochures and registration forms for our 22nd Annual Summer Basketball Camps for students entering 5th through 8th grade this fall are available. Pick one up in your child's classroom, from Coach Hauch, or in the school office. The Boys' Camp runs from June 20-24, the Girls' Camp from June 27-July 1. The hours are 9:00am-12 noon. The Boys' Camp is full, but we are setting up a waiting list. Spaces are still available in the Girls' Camp. Registration is due by May 16th.
  7. Youth Basketball: If you coached a NCRD basketball team this past season (or if your child played on a team not coached by a St. John's Parent), please take the time to submit a team roster to Coach Hauch so that we can recognize everyone's participation at our end-of-year Sports Award Presentation. This is your last chance to submit names. We don't want to miss anyone when certificates are handed out.
  8. Summer Camp: Sign-ups are now open to the general public. There are two separate camps being held. One camp is for current preschool through kindergarten students. The second camp is for current first through fourth grade students. Applications are available in the school office. Tuition is due in full by May 27th.
  9. Yearbook: There will be a supplemental issue to our yearbook, which will focus on the Track Meet, Country Fair, Confirmation, and Graduation. If you have pictures covering these events, please bring them into the school office ASAP. This new addition will be available at the beginning of the school year.
  10. The Scoop From Scrip: The 2005-2006 Scrip year has now begun. Shop early to help support St. John's. The more you buy, the more the school profits. All profits go directly to APT. APT is here to help support all those "extra" things that don't fit into our annual budget.

For those who did not reach their commitment for this past year, you will be notified of the amount due to APT.
  11. From the Minister to Youth and Children:
