Vol. 2, #19
From the Principal

Dear Parents,

I would like to remind everyone to occasionally check out the school website at www.stjohnsnapa.org. The weekly newsletter is on the website and we try to have pictures from various activities and events on their as well. I want to say a special thank you once again to Phil Gruenhagen for his work maintaining this website. He has done an outstanding job!

This Saturday is our annual APT Crab Feed here at St. John's. This is a fun event and a great opportunity for fellowship as we raise funds for the school. I want to say a special thank you to Mark and Cindy Zeller for all their work organizing and coordinating this event. To all those who have reservations to this event, please remember that the doors open at 5:00 p.m., dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the festivities will end at 10:00 p.m.

Please keep the Boys' Basketball team in your prayers as they travel to Southern California this weekend for a basketball tournament. May they have safe travel and an enjoyable experience!

In Christ,
Joel D. Wahlers
Principal

Just a reminder: Wednesday chapel offerings for this trimester are going to the Napa Food Bank. This is a great organization, which helps the needy in our own community. Let's continue to support them throughout the trimester.

  2. Let's Brighten Some Futures: Attention St. John's Eagles! We are starting a Kid 2 Kid Tsunami Relief Fund. Please help brighten the futures for the people who lost their homes and loved ones in the Tsunami disaster. Starting next week, we will be collecting donations to send to the victims of the Tsunami disaster. And best of all, Thrivent will match 100% of our donations! Each class will have a special "Tsunami Jar" displayed in their classroom where you may deposit your donations. Please remember, your donations are very important-- no matter what the amount. It all adds up! You have the next 30 days to fill those jars full of generous donations. So let's get to it!
Thank you for your generosity and for making us proud!
  3. Yearbook: Please turn in your class activity pictures, sporting events, holiday school parties, school community service and anything else, which relates to your child's class to the school office. We would love to get as many events and students included in this year’s yearbook.
If you are interested in taking pictures for the yearbook, please contact Jill Kusel or put a note in the yearbook box located in the school office. The yearbook committee can provide you with 35mm film.
  4. N.C.R. D. Youth Basketball: If you are signing up your son or daughter for the upcoming season, or if you plan to coach a team in the N.C.R.D. Youth League this year, please do so with the understanding that there will be very limited, and probably very irregular practice times available at St. John's. N.C.R.D. provides practice times at Harvest Middle School or other available city sites. Our gym schedule is pretty well filled between our 7-8 school teams and other church and school related activities.

  9. The Scoop >From Scrip: We are now accepting Visa & MasterCard as payment for your scrip purchases. Stop by and add to your air miles or car points.

Super Bowl Sunday is just around the corner!! Pick up Scrip for Albertson's, Browns Valley Market, or Vallergas to purchase all your party food.
  10. From the Minister to Youth and Children:

4th, 5th and 6th Graders: We meet this Sunday, January 23rd for a fun afternoon of playing games in the gym. We'll meet in the gym from 1-3 pm. So bring your friends as we gather together for a fun afternoon. Hope to see you this Sunday!

7th and 8th Graders: Don't forget to join us this Friday night, January 21st from 7-9 pm for "The Christmas Party." Yes, I know it's a little late, but who says you can't celebrate Christmas in January? Anyway, we'll be celebrating Christmas by playing some weird and wild games around the theme of Christmas. So invite your friends, dress in Christmas attire (if you want to) and come on down for a great celebration!
