On Eagles' Wings
November 5, 2004
Vol. 2, #11
From the Principal

Dear Parents,

The St. John's family is saddened at the death of former student Katie Springer, who graduated in 1998. Katie died in an automobile accident last weekend. Many of you knew Katie as a great student at St. John's and active in many of our church's youth and young adult events. Please keep her family in your prayers as they deal with this difficult loss. May God grant them His strength and peace, and remind them of Katie's eternal reward in heaven!

Congratulations to the 5th & 6th grade girls' basketball teams. The white and blue team made it to the finals of the Our Savior Lutheran Tournament last weekend. The white team won the championship and the blue team got second place. Also, congratulations to our Math Team from St. John's (Allison FitzGerald, Libby Francke, Justin Kaung, Marielle Grigsby-Rocca, and Kevin Cardey) for their third place finish at the Justin Sienna Math Competition last Saturday.

In a week, you will be receiving a parent survey in the mail. This survey is part of our accreditation process. It asks for some basic family data and then asks for your feedback in a number of areas. Please take the time to fill this out and return it sealed in a provided envelope to your child's teacher or the school office. Though information is asked about your family, these surveys are anonymous. We are trying to get as close to 100% return on these surveys as possible.

In Christ,
Joel D. Wahlers
Principal

  12. The Scoop From Scrip: Over the past two weeks we have mailed out the Raley's Quality of Life cards. This card is to be used at Raley's or Nob Hill stores. Simply present your card at the register and a percentage of the sale comes back to St. John's. If you did not receive a card and would like one, please stop by the school office. Make sure you pick one up for neighbors and family members.

Scrip is the easiest way to raise money for our APT. Everyone, whether you are signed up for tuition discount or not, buys groceries. All the grocery stores help with the Scrip program in one way or another. You can stop by the school office and buy Scrip for Browns Valley Market (5%), Vallergas (5%), Raley’s/Nob Hill (Quality of Life card & Encompass Card), Ralph's (Encompass Card), Alberton's, (Preferred card & Encompass Card) Safeway (e-Scrip & Encompass card) and Costco (Encompass Card). Let’s make a commitment to help our school reach their goals so that our children can benefit.

We are now at the halfway point for your Scrip commitment. Letters will be going out soon to those who are behind schedule.

Holiday Orders: If you are wanting bulk orders for certain vendors for your holiday gift giving, please give us at least 3 weeks notice. Sometimes we have it in stock, but many times we don't have the large quantities needed, so please plan ahead!
