On Eagles' Wings
September 24, 2004
Vol. 2, #5
From the Principal

Dear Parents,

I would like to ask for some parent help. One of my goals for this year is to introduce more variety in the types of extra-curricular activities at St. John's. I am trying to put together a number of what I call "Eagle Clubs". It could be a chess club, Engineering club, Art club, Drama club, or others that would be of interest to kids and would have someone willing to lead it. We will soon be offering "Science Adventures", which is an after school Science club. What I am asking is if there are any parents who have some gifts they would like to share and have time after school (3:15 p.m.) to lead an activity like this. If you have interest or ideas, please contact me!

Last spring, I loaned out some books on "Bullying" to a parent, but cannot remember who it was. If I loaned these books to you, would you please return them?

In Christ,
Joel D. Wahlers
Principal

Hurricane Charley Relief Grant Challenge
Please read the following information: Our first trimester chapel money will be devoted to helping the victims in Florida affected by the recent hurricanes, Hurricane Jeanne is fast approaching.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is issuing a challenge: Raise $2 million to assist those who survived the recent Hurricane Charley, and they will add $1 million in additional support. Charley struck Florida on August 13, killing 20 and causing upwards of $14 billion in damage. Millions of homes and churches were damaged or destroyed, lengthy power outages caused food to spoil and become unusable, and many find themselves unemployed after their workplaces closed down following the hurricane. The need is great!

We have currently raised $403.74. Contributions through chapel offerings will continue thru November 10th. Thank you for your support.
