Vol. 2, #4
From the Principal

Dear Parents,

At our Back to School night last week, I shared some information about the Young Peacemakers program that we are implementing at St. John's this year. I wanted to once again give you a resource for this program so that you can be more informed about what we are doing. I you go to www.hispeace.org, you will see a description of what Peacemaker Ministries is all about. You will also note that there are resources there for families as well. As I mentioned before, we are focusing on the 12 principles of Peacemakers at the first chapel of the month. Our next chapel on this will be on Wednesday, October 6 at 8:40 a.m. I realize that many of you cannot make this time, but you are welcome to attend if you can!

As you know by the calendar, there is no school on Monday due to a faculty in-service day. The purpose of this in-service is to allow our teaching staff to review and revise different areas of our curriculum. As a staff, we are developing a written curriculum that is designed to meet the expectations of our school and allow more effective integration throughout our grades.

In Christ,
Joel D. Wahlers
Principal

Hurricane Charley Relief Grant Challenge
Please read the following information: Our first trimester chapel money will be devoted to helping the victims in Florida affected by the recent hurricanes.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is issuing a challenge: Raise $2 million to assist those who survived the recent Hurricane Charley, and they will add $1 million in additional support. Charley struck Florida on August 13, killing 20 and causing upwards of $14 billion in damage. Millions of homes and churches were damaged or destroyed, lengthy power outages caused food to spoil and become unusable, and many find themselves unemployed after their workplaces closed down following the hurricane. The need is great!

If you are able and willing to make a donation, please make checks payable to Napa County Chapter of Thrivent Financial. Write Hurricane on the memo line and bring it to the school office. If you have any questions, please contact Teresa Schmid.
